Kirby and I have some incredibly exciting news! We’re having a baby! And it’s a girl!

Look at that cute little profile!

What an incredible journey this has been. We first learned that we were expecting a baby one week after we were appointed by World Gospel Mission to serve as missionaries in the Czech Republic! Talk about a future unknown! New country, new language, new baby.

This news (about which we were and still are incredibly thrilled) definitely made it a little more overwhelming to try and figure out what the next year of our life would look like. We had been thinking we would love to get to the Czech Republic by the fall, but our little lady is due the beginning of November, so that really changed our timeline around. All we could do is say, “God, this in your hands.” In reality, this is a much better mindset for us anyway as followers of Christ.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Now that we have surrendered our plans and ideas about how and when we will get to the Czech Republic and have a baby in the middle of that process, we are able to see how God has been orchestrating this journal all along. What a gift to see where he is at work! He has taught us so much about trust through the timing of changes with our jobs; he has crossed our paths with incredible teachers regarding our spiritual giftings and how they work together with other believers for the expansion of the Kingdom; family members who don’t live nearby will be able to spend time with our little girl before we move overseas.

When God called us to the Czech Republic, he already knew about the life of this little baby girl, and she is a part of his plan for us. For that, we praise God.

This little girl is healthy and adorable! As many of you know, last year we lost a child through miscarriage. Here’s a bit of how God met us during that difficult time : The Steadfast in the Unexpected: How God Met Us in Our Grief and Showed Us the Heart of the Gospel. This pregnancy, we rejoice in the health of our child and seek God’s hand of protection upon her daily. She is such a blessing already.

By the time we went to South Dakota in June, there was definitely a baby belly showing!

We are so grateful to be able to share this journey with you. There are many uncertainties ahead regarding the details and finances of having this child here in the US while preparing to move to overseas, but God assures us again and again, it is not hard for him to provide! “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it” (Psalm 24.1) We praise God for his generosity and provision, AND we praise God that we are not enough to make these things happen.

God said to the apostle Paul about his difficulties, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Paul continued on to say in 2 Corinthians 12.9, “Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” We pray that the power of Christ might be made know because we are incapable of making miracles happen. But God, he has the power to direct our steps and provide the right timing, money, insurance, and connections to have a child in the face of so much instability in all of those areas.

Whitney and baby at 25 weeks!

Would you pray with us

to be steadfast in trusting the Lord

in what he is doing

and how he is leading us?
